Comparing installers in NSW?

Compare Sydney solar quotes, or read on to find out more about choosing an installer and rebates that are available in Sydney and NSW.

Sydney has a temperate climate with warm summers and cool winters. Summer temperatures average around 25-26 degrees Celsius, and Winters are cool with temps around 15-19 degrees Celsius. Whilst there is high rainfall, this is typically spread throughout the year, leaving a significant number of sunny days for solar panels.

Solar market allows you to compare quotes from up to 3 solar installers in your local area. We put you in touch with reliable, CEC accredited installers who will look at your situation and come up with the best system for your needs.

What size system should I get?

Whilst Sydney does not have as much sun as some of the other major cities in Australia, on average the 3.9 hours of peak sun a day will provide ample power to most homes. A small 1.5kW solar system will result in approximately 5.8kWh of electricity on average per day, whilst a large 5kW system will generate around 19kWh a day, enough for most households of 3-4 people.

The following table shows what system size you will need for a small, medium and large household.

Small Home Medium Home Large Home
1.5kw system 3kw system 4kw system
5.85kWh ave daily output 11.7kWh ave daily output 15.6kWh ave daily output

What rebates are available?

The current rebate available is from the Federal Government, which is generally given as a discount on the price of installation from your installer. There is a small amount of paperwork to do, but the solar company you deal with should be able to guide you through this process. By claiming the rebate this way, you can get a direct discount from the installer and don’t have to worry about claiming the rebate yourself at a later date.

The rebate is not means tested, can only be claimed once per property but there is no limit to how many properties you can claim it on.

What feed-in tariff is available?

Although New South Wales no longer has a guaranteed feed in tariff, most retailers still provide a relatively high rate for the electricity you feed back into the grid.

Rates are subject to change and vary across different retailers, be sure to check with your retailer about the rate which you are eligible to receive.

Retail Energy Provider Current Rate
AGL 8c
Origin 6c
Lumo 5.1c
Power Direct 7.7c
Dodo 8c

With daytime NSW electricity rates up to 35c/kWh, offsetting daytime usage with your own solar power is effectively like having a 35c Feed in Tariff. The other factor that’s cushioning the blow of the lower FIT is the fact that panel prices globally have plummeted over the last year whilst at the same time electricity prices continue to rise.

Now is the time to switch to solar

Electricity prices are continuing to rise, whilst panels have came down in price 75% in the last 4 years. Make your switch to solar today!
