Epuron, an Australian renewable energy company has acquired the Uterne Power plant, a 1MW power plant in Alice Springs. The power station has more than 3000 panels that move according to the position of the sun.

The plant currently provides approximately 1% of Alice Springs electricity, and can meet a capacity of 2% peak during peak demand times.

The project has been funded by the Commonwealth Bank, with many commentators suggesting that this is the largest solar project of this size that has been supported by a major bank.

With support of the Power and Water Corp, the project was developed by SunPower. SunPower will continue to provide operational and maintenance support, and under an agreed solar purchase plan, the Power and Water corporation will buy the electricity at a guaranteed rate over a period of 20 years.
