According to latest research prepared by Green Energy Markets for the REC Agents Association, more than half of all solar panels and solar hot water heaters are being installed in regional Australia.

The report details that most solar PV systems (53%) were installed in regional and rural communities, compared to only 43% in major cities. There was also a 60% higher penetration of solar outside of the major capital cities.

It also goes on to list some of the largest solar suburbs in Australia, including Coondanup (near Mandurah) WA, Abbotsford (near Bundaberg) QLD, and Bentley (near Ballina) NSW. The findings suggest that solar panels are most likely to be installed in the outer suburban areas.
