Solar power is a cheaper alternative

It’s true that an investment in a solar system is no longer as lucrative as it once was but solar is still worth the investment. Where the incentive was before July 9 to install the biggest system you could fit on your roof and export as much power as possible during the day, the best way to make the most of your system now is to install a system that produces about what you use during the day or what you can reasonably expect to move into the middle of the day. (dishwashers, washing machines, change hot water timers, irrigation, pumps etc) That way, you’re using your own power and not importing from the grid at rates ranging from 25c/kWh to 35c/kWh.

With power prices in Queensland expected to increase substantially over the next couple of years, solar is a great way to protect yourself and your family against these price rises.

Another factor that has helped to cushion to impact of the lower FIT is the fact that solar panel prices worldwide have plummeted recently and have made solar systems the cheapest they’ve ever been. On top of this, you’ll still receive assistance from the Federal Government under the Solar Credit Scheme.
