Western Australia is set to receive a new low emissions solar plant, a 1.5 megawatt concentrated solar thermal power (CSP) station to be built near the country town of Morawa, in the mid-west of WA. The 8 hectare solar plant is a project led by Solastor and Carbon Reduction Ventures.

The project is expected to be completed by 2014, and is expected to bring improved power reliability to the rapidly growing town of Morawa. The project got a kick-start with $3.7 million in funding from the Low Emissions Energy Development (LEED) fund ran by the Government department of Environment and Conservation; aimed at funding low emissions energy technologies in WA. The funding enabled confidence to secure capital raising for the project and will be used throughout each stage of the design and construction process.
